What happens when a request is transferred?

When a staffer transfers a request to a hotline:

  1. A new request notification is sent to all the staffers in the hotline it was transferred to.
  2. A status message is posted to the request conversation letting the request know about the transfer.
  3. The staffer who transferred the request stays in the request conversation. (They can choose to leave at any time; the easiest way to leave is by clicking the “Leave Group” button on the transfer confirmation dialog.)

When a staffer transfers a request to a person:

  1. The person is immediately made the assigned "owner" of the request.
  2. The person is immediately added to the request conversation.
  3. The staffer who transferred the request stays in the request conversation. (They can choose to leave at any time; the easiest way to leave is by clicking the “Leave Group” button on the transfer confirmation dialog.)

Which hotlines can I transfer a request to?

Any hotline that belongs to any organization that you are a member of.  This includes hotlines that are in a different Zinc organization than the original hotline and the requester who reached out to that hotline.

Which people can I transfer a request to?

Any person who is a member of an organization you belong to, or is a staffer in the hotline the request was sent to.

Can I transfer a request to a hotline I am a member of?

Yes. You can transfer a request to any hotline.

Can I transfer a request back to the original hotline the requester reached out to?

Yes. You can transfer a request to any hotline, including the one it was originally sent to.  If you want to re-claim the request you’ll need to click on the request in the feed again.

Why don’t I see the dark gray request banner after I transferred the request?

Only staffers in the hotline that a request was most recently sent to see the gray request banner. Since the request is now their responsibility, it’s up to them to mark it as done or transfer it again.  If you transfer a request to a hotline that you are a member of then you’ll see a blue banner until it is claimed by a staffer.

I transferred a request to a hotline that I staff and I want to claim it again myself, what do I do?

Click on the request feed item for the request. You’ll be assigned again and the blue “pending request” banner will turn into a dark gray “active request” banner.

Can I transfer a request from my iOS or Android app?

Yes! Request transferring is available on all platforms where Zinc runs, including iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and the web.
